Invisalign – The Invisibility Cloak of Orthodontics.

September 1, 2020

In the current climate of COVID-19 we all wish we could step into a fantasy world and to tell the truth, apparating into Hogwarts sounds pretty good right now (ok, ok, Hermione, we know we can’t apparate in)! While we can’t really escape the reality of the times – reading Harry Potter is a good way to distract ourselves; and as we were doing so recently, we realized all the ways that the advances of  Invisalign Technology are like the advances in the wizarding world!

Just as Harry doesn’t know that the wizarding world exists at the beginning of the books, many patients come to us not knowing about Invisalign. So, just as Hagrid gives Harry a crash course, we’re going to do the same for you! Follow us to Diagon Alley, Hogwarts and beyond…

What is Invisalign? – The Invisibility Cloak of Orthodontics

Rather than using metal brackets and wires, at Somerville Orthodontics we can offer clear aligners that can gently and effectively move your teeth towards the smile of your dreams! Just like Harry’s invisibility cloak, Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible – these aligners are produced from a  patented flexible plastic material that was invented exclusively for Invisalign by biomechanical engineers who probably work in the Department of Mysteries. This stuff is that complex.

Transfiguration 101

Professor McGonagall would tell you that you need to understand the object you’re starting with before transforming it into something else. With Invisalign, Dr. Lee will use our high tech 3D scanning system to understand exactly where the bones in your mouth are at this point so that he can map out a plan for your finished smile and build custom fitted aligners for your journey. Our handheld scanner takes high resolution interactive images of your teeth in 3D at a rate of 6,000 images per second. Even Mr. Ollivander would be impressed with this wand!

Divination with Professors Trelawney and Firenze

While only a few have the inner eye, with lots of study (4 years of dental school and an additional 2 years of orthodontic study) a trained orthodontist can map out a customized treatment plan to ensure you have the smile of your dreams at the end of your orthodontic journey. With many years of experience and a lot of cases treated with Invisalign, you can be sure you’re in competent hands with Dr. Lee. He is Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, he was the Program Director of the Orthodontic Department at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, NY for over 3 years and has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals. Know who your orthodontist is before you start treatment – you don’t want someone playing card tricks, a true seer is necessary.

Bubble Head Charms

Sorry, we’ve got to talk about the pandemic again…Wouldn’t it be great if we all could just walk around with a bubble head charm? Well that certainly seems more comfortable than all the PPE we’re wearing these days, but we’re not complaining! At Somerville Orthodontics we have taken every precaution to ensure your safety and the safety of our team. From changing our patient workflow to enhanced PPE, Madam Pomfrey would be proud.

When to start? Welcome to Hogwarts!
